Trail Restoration is just ONE improvement at Rock Point!

Rock Point Trail Restoration and Realignment Underway at Eagle Bay

Timber and Stone have begun the first phase of a complete trails restoration and realignment. This phase at Eagle Bay will include the construction of two bridges, the realignment of the Holy Trinity Trail that runs along the north side of the bay, steps, and the installation of protective rails at the northern outlook at the bay’s mouth. This first phase, costing roughly $38,000, is eighty per cent funded by a Recreation Trail Program Grant administered by the State of Vermont’s Agency of Natural Resources through the department of Forestry and Parks. The required 20% match comes from gifts to The Rock Point Partnership Campaign. Anticipated completion is by the end of May. The start for the next phase of this $250,000 project is projected for the fall of 2018. Plans are underway to raise funds in support of this work and a campaign towards that end will be announced soon.

The Rock Point Board manages the Rock Point property, home to the Episcopal Diocesan Offices, the Bishop’s House, Rock Point School, Bishop Booth Conference Center, Rock Point Camp, and Crow’s Path nature education programs. A wide variety of other educational programs and retreat groups use the space for recreation and spiritual sanctuary.

Our challenge is to pay for the maintenance and conservation of this property while practicing hospitality to all who use it. Recently, in addition to contributions from those whose programs reside on Rock Point, we have started to ask for support from those who obtain day or seasonal passes, and from the number of educational groups who utilize the property.

In the past year, 364 people have obtained day or seasonal passes and 59 received group passes. We are pleased that several property pass holders have made donations to Rock Point, but our hope is that all who use the property will want to help preserve Rock Point as a welcoming sanctuary in the heart of Burlington.
