It stands for the Rooted Heart Rising Medicinal Herb Garden, which is a pollinator sanctuary located on the grounds of Rock Point.
Kara Schott Buchanan stewards the program which contributes to gardening education and planning at Rock Point School (RPS). She is most grateful for the opportunity to care for and share this educational garden space. Kara is also involved in the Rock Point Pollinator Solar Meadow Project, planning the demonstration garden and including RPS students in growing plants for the project.
The Rooted Heart Rising Garden serves as a major classroom for Spoonful Herbals, a local nonprofit educational organization which Kara also co-directs. Spoonful Herbals has a variety of offerings, among which is a 6-month Apprenticeship Program, and a 3-season herbal product which includes many of the natural wellness remedies and formulations the apprentices are learning to make. The product is offered to CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) members.
CSA members receive in depth education about the products they receive through a shared newsletter which describes what plants are used and why, and how to best use and enjoy them. They also have the opportunity to speak with the herbalists at a share pickup and are invited to complimentary workshops and events.
Please stop by to visit the Rooted Heart Rising Garden to learn more about the plants growing there. New signs assist with a self-guided tour! Contact Kara to arrange a group workshop or plant walk! kara@spoonfulherbals.org
