Tyler Pastorok, Land Steward of Rock Point
As the leaves come to rest with the soil
and tuck in their insect neighbors for winter,
the beauty of the lake
expands its reach deeper into Rock Point forest.
From the budding nature center
on the hill above Eagle Bay,
we are nourished by the persistent sunset
of a November day.
Together we tan sheepskins,
grown from this land by Thistle and Dodge,
whose lives we honor
by cherishing and sharing
every gift they gave.
As we stretch and soften their wooly hides
on this newly exposed perch,
curiosity awakens in visitors of the trail below.
Those who inquire are welcomed
with the joyful story of today’s endeavor.
This
is our offering.
we give ourselves to this land
which gives itself to all,
and invite you to receive its gifts with us.
Embracing our interdependence,
together we are nourished
by its wisdom,
food,
and companionship.
Reciprocity sustains
this generous flow of healing
between ourselves, land, and community,
so we humbly ask
for the gift of your support.
The sheepskins from the flock grazed at Rock Point were tanned after the harvest.
